Board Games

I know this is about trading card games and not board games, but I would say they’re very close in principle, considering the complexity of games like Magic. I recently discovered the mysterious world of “grading”, in which services like PSA will grade your card as to add some felt value to the card itself, because of its rarity and how near to mint it is.

When I consider a game for buying, I look for playthrough videos, more than reviews. Do you do the same thing, and what are your favorite channels?

Hey all, prior to covid, a friend and I were playing our way through the lotr lcg. He had loads of store credit and bought several boxes so we could have any cards we might need, because (as i recall) there maybe only a single card in the initial box, but we might want (or need) multiples of those cards… So it necessitated buying several starter boxes. I imagine the game was probably playable without that, but it was a convenience for cash sort of thing that felt predatory to me.

I’m working on a historical board game called Vienna 1814: Waltz of Nations and wanted to ask people who actually play heavier games what they think.

Ideally without mentioning its name, I’ll start

It’s action packed and fast paced, intuitive to pick up for my novice friends and family, replayable with several kinds of optional mechanics. Initially, I picked it up because someone mentioned it in a Flamme Rouge review as being better than it, and I enjoy both games to pieces as the mechanics are immersive.

I just played Azul for the first time and I really like it. The rules are straightforward and it's quick to setup and pack up. It reminds me a lot of Sagrada.

It started as a world building thing and ended up complete enough to actually play. It’s a bit like chess but with tiles placed to make the field and a pog like betting system. Everyone I’ve shown it to tells me I need to publish it, but I have no idea how. Any one here have suggestions?

I just feel sad about it. I’ve been buying most of my games from the same shop for years, the staff is really friendly and knowledgeable. A couple weeks ago they suddenly announced they’re closing.

I’m thinking of buying Hero Quest again. I like that the rules aren’t too complicated.

I’m a regular at a local BG hub and until now people keep planning sessions via a whatsapp group. This creates a few problems, such as people asking for players for a game, and then random messages pushing their message out of screen, so people don’t notice. Basically there’s a lot of people who have games who want to play specific games and people who want to play those games, and I want to find a more efficient way to organize this.

I’d like to get a game mat made as a board for Pai Sho. Most of the places online i can find that make boards either don’t make them big enough, don’t make circles, or don’t make them with custom designs printed on them. A while back i found Overpowered Mats, which actually does do all three of those things, but they’re no longer in the game mats business.

So what’s some easy game to play under influence of alcohol? Or other drugs if you are in to it. I am looking for just simple games we just had few rounds of BANG!.

I like how the mechanics help the players better impersonate the "bad guys" by having them constantly backstab each other while managing the same company. The final outcome is given by a simple ranking by score. Because of this, I am wondering what's preventing a player from having the company go bankrupt as soon as they get a slight edge. Is it the fear of ruining the whole game for everybody? Is it the Company Failure deck being super-random? I'll start: the solo system in A Feast for Odin. You just have to control two hands/colors that block each other's worker placement. No automa, no special rules.

Any game really

It cane with cassette tapes. I remember having this board game when I was 10, or 11 so around 90, 91. Just don't remember the name of it. I do remember it was a lot of fun. Anyone have clue what the name was?

Im familiar enough with board games to know that I’m asking a lot here. My goal is to have a game that I can carry around with me, walk up to people I meet in public, and ask them to play.

I know, there are fancy editions with Swarovski, golden pawns, inlaid wooden boards etc. But what are the most expensive base editions?

Some games are complicated - they have really complex rules. Examples of this are games where you have to track many different types of tokens, with different rules for each.

I learned about postmark games a couple years ago, found the print and play format quite interesting and wanted to try something. But it looks like all their games are competitive, which I often don't enjoy.
